Maxine Cunningham, Vancouver

Hi Maxine! Introduce yourself in three sentences; as you would to a stranger at a party.

👋 My name is Maxine, I am the CEO of Pick My Brain. I am on a mission to facilitate 1 million one-on-one conversations between the world’s people using Pick My Brain as my tool of choice.

Tell us something you believe that others might find controversial?

Knowledge commerce will surpass e-commerce in 20 years!

Tell us about the city where you live. What makes it feel like home? What are your favourite spots in this city? What do you eat for breakfast?

Vancouver is lush with nature; oceans, mountains, beaches.

My favorite spots are deep in the rain forest or playing beach volleyball on Kitsilano (Kits) Beach.

I eat vegetables for breakfast.

Kisilano Beach

If we were to visit your city for the first time, what’s the one place we should visit that we wouldn’t find in a guidebook?

Hidden beach. (You’ll have to ask me personally if you want to know where it is 😉).

Reflecting on your past; what are the key moments or breakthroughs that define your life journey so far.

Quitting my job. Going all-in on Pick My Brain. Raising $500k. On-boarding 600 incredible people from all around the world. Facilitating 10,000 conversations.

You are more than your job title… tell us about your side hustles, wildest dreams, or vision for the future.

I sell my knowledge creatively in the form of pick my brain calls, coffee and conversations, private working sessions, workshops, programs, and more.

Who or what has impacted or inspired the direction of your life the most? Tell us why?

Pick My Brain. It has introduced me to the most diverse people in the world and unlocked a global perspective in me.

All journeys in life have their ups and downs. Tell us about a time when you felt uncertain about the future. How did you overcome and deal with this situation?

Every day as a startup founder is challenging.

On the most challenging days, I book Brains and share my vision. It empowers me and often gives me peer-to-peer validation that keeps me going.

Give us a peek into your everyday life; what inspires and motivates you to do what you do? Why do you do it? What keeps you going? What challenges do you need to regularly overcome? Do you have any rituals?

Everything good in this world starts with a conversation. This is why I am on a mission to facilitate 1 million of them. People inspire the shit out of me. I don’t care who you are or what you do, your story is fascinating and makes me reflect in entirely new ways. And so I make an effort to meet 1 x new person every week and it has made all the difference.

If you could ask The Sense Network to help you to change one thing in the world for the better, what would you change and why?

I would ask everyone to challenge themselves to meet 1 x new person 1:1 every month for a meaningful conversation. If they need help doing that I would point them toward a program I started called Meet the World’s People.
