This month we saw Sense Supper Clubs hit Los Angeles for the first time. Organised by host extraordinaire, Jeffrey Abramson, this edition saw the worlds of VR, clowning, innovation, Chinese medicine, journalism and sailing (!) collide for a fascinating night of discussion, connections and collaboration.
As with all Sense Supper Clubs, we ask our hosts to summarise their evenings in a single email to their guests to help foster local connections, ideas and collaborations with like minded people, from worlds unlike their own, in their own towns and cities. Ultimately, helping to forge the new and unexpected paths of the creative journeys of those that attended. These letters are our hosts’ (and our) chronicles of creative intelligence. Read on to discover more about what the night held for guests in LA this year.
What a wonderful gathering of unique souls we had on Wednesday night. Thank you all so much for joining and sharing your incredible stories and inspiring energy.
For me it felt like time suspended Wednesday eve, and that’s a rare occurrence these days! The next day I felt wonderfully depleted, like I had just hosted a film festival, played in a soccer tournament (football for you Londoners) or had just returned home from 4 weeks of sleep away camp. A feeling that is always connected to intense work or play with strong and vibrant personalities.
The power of light and shadow to connect us
The value of intelligent and silly IRL social playtime for both kids and adults
How advancements in A/V technology are finally starting to take root in live event venues
How skills and knowledge obtained to perpetuate capitalism and human control such as marketing/ad tech and product and chemical engineering, can be flipped on its head to instead support environmental sustainability and direct and efficient support for our homeless and slum-dwelling neighbors throughout the globe
Water not only as a necessary ingestible life force but a spiritual one as well
To keep up with ever-evolving technology – just try it
I also really enjoyed at the end when we all spoke as one group and only wish we had been able to spend more time speaking sharing our hopes, dreams and fears for the present and future. We all clearly share a deep curiosity about the world around us … a power that will help us to continue to be leaders in making things better and making better things in this exponentially accelerating existence.
If you want to relive the evening you can check out the silly but also meaningful instastory in the highlights on @TheSenseNetwork’s Instagram stories. And you can find each other’s Instagram handles tagged on the group photo on the Sense account.
It was an absolute joy to spend meaningful time with you all in person. Have a wonderful weekend wherever it may take you.
Best,
Jeff

RIP ARETHA, I THINK WE CAN CALL RELATE . . .
You’ve got to accentuate the positive
Eliminate the negative
Latch on to the affirmative
Don’t mess with Mister In-Between
You’ve got to spread joy up to the maximum
Bring gloom down to the minimum
Have faith or pandemonium
Liable to walk upon the scene
To illustrate his last remark
Jonah in the whale, Noah in the ark
What did they do
Just when everything looked so dark
Man, they said we better, accentuate the positive
